A Holistic Approach to Healing
In my early twenties I discovered yoga and it had a profound impact on me and the direction my life would take. After that first class I felt like I had never felt before and had such a deep peaceful sleep. I was hooked! This love led me to complete my first of many Yoga Teacher Trainings. My first training left me wanting more, to go deeper. It took a few years until I found my teacher Yogarupa Rod Stryker (Parayoga) and embarked on an in-depth training which taught me the deeper teachings and led me down some wonderful paths. In 2002 I opened the doors to a successful yoga centre which I sold in 2012 after realizing owning a business was a wonderful experience but wasn’t my true calling. During my time with Yogarupa I discovered and studied Ayurveda, the sister science to yoga which allowed me to understand our bodies, how “dis-ease” in our body can lead to imbalance, illness and awaken our connection to nature and the elements. More importantly it can help one heal!
Continuing my journey as a seeker, led me to study Shamanism, energy medicine. I completed a 320-hour course (Earning the Light Training Program) and I received medicine rites from my teacher Pete Bernard (Algonquin Medicine Man from the Algonquin Pikwakanagan First Nation). This has been another layer of wisdom and healing that I blend into my yoga classes, retreats, and healing sessions. This also led me to complete a Reiki Master Training in this lineage with Pete as well.
I’ve recently been blessed to sit in circle with the gifted Medicine Woman Asha Frost -Healing Rainbow Woman (Ojibway), who’s become a teacher and mentor to me. Working with Asha has been healing and awakening. Through working with Asha I’ve been gifted the Medicine rite of a spiritual name, Sparkling Water Woman.
The journey for me continues, it’s been healing and continues to heal on many layers. It’s shed insight on many of my lifelong curiosities around life, death and our purpose. I have been teaching yoga for over 18 years, facilitating healing sessions for a little over 3 years, guided retreats for over 8 years and trained over 120 Hatha Yoga teachers the richness of yoga, Ayurveda and healing in Ottawa and surrounding areas.

Whether it’s a healing session or a yoga class, your first or your 50th, each session is like taking a medicine walk. You always end the journey feeling a shift from when you first began. I often blend modalities in a session and anyone or anybody is welcome.

Shamanism-Energy medicine healing
Shamanism is about connecting us with the earth’s elements and energies to help get to the root of our wound(s). We can heal the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual pain, past traumas by going deep into our consciousness to help address and heal our past, present, and future. An example of some of our core wounds that may be causing suffering in our lives is around wounds related to Self-Worth, Betrayal, Rejection and Abandonment, to mention a few.
Reiki is a Japanese form of alternative medicine called energy healing. The word comes from “Rei” meaning Universal-or higher power and “Ki” meaning life force energy, which is the energy that flows through all beings. If our life force energy is low, we tend to get sick, have a difficult time managing stress or difficulty sleeping as examples.
The benefits of receiving a Reiki session in person or from a distance, is a feeling of being very relaxed, light in the body and peaceful. Reiki helps to break down energy blocks and balances the mind, body and spirit. It also helps to promote clarity, physical healing and less physical pain. Reiki also helps to release toxins from the body while supporting our immune system, nervous system and helps promote better sleep.
Regular meditation practice is life-changing. I’m always excited to help set one up with a practice. I have a busy life with two young school-aged daughters and other demands, I am all about creating a practice that will complement your lifestyle. Meditation doesn’t have to be hard or long! 3-5 minutes a day has many benefits such as reduced stress levels, helps manage anxiety, enhances self-awareness, improves sleep, increased patience and be deeply healing to mention a few.
Yoga & Ayurveda
I’ve been teaching yoga in class settings, on retreats and one on one for a little over 18 years. My approach to yoga is very holistic. My classes are beyond body beautiful but rather about healing the whole person.
Yoga is the union of mind, body and spirit. I will connect with you to assess where you’re at mentally and physically and tailor breath, asana (posture) specifically to meet your needs. With yoga, I also incorporate the Ayurvedic wisdom in healing you achieve your goals and heal.
Ayurveda comes from the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (knowledge/science) and means the science of life. Ayurveda is a healthy lifestyle system that focuses on good health and prevention of illness through healthy lifestyle practices such as yoga, meditation and dietary changes. The teachings say that the five elements of nature ( space, fire, air, earth, water) combine in our body as three components – the Dosha’s which are Vata, Pitta and Kapha. When one Dosha or all are out of balance we can start to experience some health concerns. However, through a plan, we can slowly balance out the dosa’s for good health. Having an understanding of your dosha’s helps me to put together a very specific plan for you and your week being.
Due to Covid-19, healing and yoga sessions are being offered from a distance or via FaceTime, Skype, Google meet or Zoom.
All sessions are approximately 45 minutes in length.
